NTU CAC: What’s On at ArtScience Museum

As we can now dine out in groups of five, families and friends are once again seeking new places to explore in our island country. If that’s the case, why not check out the latest exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum? Situated next to Marina Bay Sands, the ArtScience Museum is open to all with the latest safety precautions to ensure the safety of all guests, offering three brand-new events that blend arts and science together: Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed, Where Art Meets Science and the final exhibition Orchestral Manoeuvres: See Sound. Feel Sound. Be Sound. I explored the Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed exhibition, which encourages attendees to immerse themselves in interactive game artworks inspired by renowned video game companies such as Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding and Tequila Works’ RiME

The event is held in Basement 2 and features a large “play” area where people may freely roam about and visit whichever attraction they like (applies for all three exhibitions). Equipped with cutting-edge technology, visitors are immersed in the imaginations of these exceptional artists, experiencing a thrilling adventure using our five senses. Head-mounted displays and interactive environments that are state-of-the-art expand the scope and experience of art as we know it, such as when it was used to illustrate the dreamlike world of thatgamecompany’s Sky: Children of Light, where couples interacting with the virtual walls would trigger a choreography of light sequences. With psychedelic reflections and the use of haptic spheres in Synesthesia, Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed exhibition is a wonderful myriad of illuminating lights that become viable ways of expression, as the supplied instruments necessitate various sensitivities.

While I did not explore Where Art Meets Science & Orchestral Manoeuvres: See Sound. Feel Sound. Be Sound in similar detail, they implement the same themes of creating a playable virtual environment that’s fun for children and adults alike. Be sure to book your tickets online to ensure your vacancy, as there were long queues for each exhibition already.

Amidst living with COVID, come on down to the ArtScience Museum to experience a fresh new outlook of virtual environments that’s fun for all ages.
